The Hare Area-Specific Self-Esteem Scale – HASES was developed by Bruce R. Hare (1980). It is designed to measure Self-Esteem. The scale is intended for use with Adolescents.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Strongly disagree, 2 = Disagree, 3 = Agree, 4 = Strongly agree.
The scale includes 5 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Item scores are averaged to produce a mean score.
Total scores range from 10 to 40. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Self-Esteem: 10 – 20
- Moderate Self-Esteem: 21 – 30
- High Self-Esteem: 31 – 40
