Scale Overview
The Minimization Scale was developed by Robert Plutchik & Herman Van-Praag (1989). It is designed to measure Minimization coping strategy. The scale is intended for use with Adolescents and adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 10 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = Not like me, 1 = Like me.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 10. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low use of minimization: 0 – 3
- Moderate use of minimization: 4 – 7
- High use of minimization: 8 – 10
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 3 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
