Scale Development & Technical Details
Scale Overview
The Writing Self-Regulation Scale (WSRS) was developed by Ebrahim Khodadady, Salim Yassami (2012). It is designed to measure Writing Self-Regulation. The scale is intended for use with EFL/ESL students.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 20 items organized into 5 factors/subscales: Instructions, Accessing Samples, Semantic Revision, Syntactic Revision, Editing.
| Factor / Subscale | Items | N |
|---|---|---|
| Instructions | 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 | 7 |
| Accessing Samples | 8,10 | 2 |
| Semantic Revision | 9,11,12,13 | 4 |
| Syntactic Revision | 14 | 1 |
| Editing | 15,16,17,18,19,20 | 6 |
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Not at all, 2 = A little, 3 = Adequately, 4 = To a great extent.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 20 to 80. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Self-Regulation: 20 – 39
- Moderate Self-Regulation: 40 – 59
- High Self-Regulation: 60 – 80
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Not specified in source text.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
