Scale Overview
The Army Locus of Control Scale – Army-LOC was developed by W. Albert Hunter (2002). It is designed to measure Locus of Control (Aviation Safety). The scale is intended for use with Aviators and military pilots.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 30 items organized into 2 factors/subscales: Internality, Externality.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a 5-point Likert scale (1 = Strongly Disagree to 5 = Strongly Agree).
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 15 to 75. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Subscale Score: 15 – 34
- Moderate Subscale Score: 35 – 55
- High Subscale Score: 56 – 75

Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Alpha values range from 0.75 to 0.85 for the subscales.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
