The Parental Locus of Control Scale – PLOC was developed by Campis, L., Lyman, R. & Prentis-Dunn, S. (1986). It is designed to measure Parental Locus of Control. The scale is intended for use with Parents.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 47 items organized into 5 factors/subscales: Parental Efficacy, Parental Responsibility, Child Control of Parents’ Life, Parental Belief in Fate/Chance, Parental Control of Child’s Behavior.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a 5-point Likert scale (1 = Strongly Disagree to 5 = Strongly Agree).
The scale includes 13 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 47 to 235. Interpretation guidelines:
- Internal Parental Locus of Control: 47 – 109
- Intermediate Parental Locus of Control: 110 – 172
- External Parental Locus of Control: 173 – 235
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
