Scale Overview
The Assertiveness Scale for Adolescents (ASA) was developed by Lee, Hallberg, Slemon, & Haase (1985). It is designed to measure Assertiveness. The scale is intended for use with Adolescents.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 25 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: A = Option A, B = Option B, C = Option C.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 25. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Assertiveness: 0 – 8
- Moderate Assertiveness: 9 – 17
- High Assertiveness: 18 – 25
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of 0.78.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
