Scale Overview
The Family Awareness Scale – FAS was developed by Kolevzon M. S., Green R. G. (1987). It is designed to measure Family functioning and systemic awareness. The scale is intended for use with Families / Adults rating their family unit.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 14 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = 1 (Positive/Negative Anchor depending on item), 2 = 2, 3 = 3, 4 = 4, 5 = 5, 6 = 6, 7 = 7, 8 = 8, 9 = 9 (Opposite Anchor).
The scale includes 4 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 14 to 126. Interpretation guidelines:
- Healthy Family Functioning: 14 – 50
- Moderate Family Dysfunction: 51 – 90
- Severe Family Dysfunction: 91 – 126
