The Family Belief Inventory – Parent Version (FBI-Parent) was developed by Sandra L. Vincent-Roehling & Arthur L. Robin (1986). It is designed to measure Parent-adolescent unrealistic beliefs and cognitive distortions. The scale is intended for use with Parents of adolescents.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 80 items organized into 10 factors/subscales: Who Should Be Youth’s Friend, How Money Spent, Being Nice to Teen’s Friend, Spending Time Away from Home, Using the Telephone, Staying Out Past Curfew, Cleaning One’s Room, Talking Back to Parent, Earning Money Away from Home, Helping Out Around the House.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a 5-point Likert scale (1 = Strongly Disagree to 5 = Strongly Agree).
The scale includes 16 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.

Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Alpha coefficients typically range from .70 to .86 for the subscales.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 25 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
