Scale Overview
The Family Coping Coherence Index – FCCI was developed by Hamilton I. McCubbin, Andrea Larsen, & David H. Olson (1982). It is designed to measure Family coping coherence. The scale is intended for use with Families.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 4 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = Strongly Disagree, 1 = Disagree, 2 = Neutral, 3 = Agree, 4 = Strongly Agree.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 16. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Family Coherence: 0 – 5
- Moderate Family Coherence: 6 – 11
- High Family Coherence: 12 – 16
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 2 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
