Scale Overview
The Family Inventory of Resources for Management (FIRM) was developed by Hamilton I. McCubbin, Joan K. Comeau, Jane A. Harkins (1981). It is designed to measure Family resources, coping, and stress management capabilities. The scale is intended for use with Families / Parents.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 69 items organized into 4 factors/subscales: Family Strengths I: Esteem and Communication, Family Strengths II: Mastery and Health, Family Strengths III: Extended Family Social Support, Family Strengths IV: Financial Well-Being.

The scale includes 31 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.

Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.

Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Esteem and Communication (0.85), Mastery and Health (0.85), Extended Family Social Support (0.62), Financial Well-Being (0.85).
Administration
