The Family Traditions Scale – FTS was developed by Hamilton I. McCubbin, Anne I. Thompson (1987). It is designed to measure Family Traditions. The scale is intended for use with Families.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 20 items organized into 4 factors/subscales: Traditions Around Holidays, Traditions Around Changes, Religious Occasions, Family Special Events.

Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 20. Interpretation guidelines:
- Total score ranges from 0 to 20, with higher scores indicating a greater number of family traditions.: 0 – 20
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
