Scale Overview
The Parent Affect Test – PAT was developed by Marsha M. Linehan, Elise Paul, & Kelly J. Egan (1983). It is designed to measure Parental Affect. The scale is intended for use with Parents.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 40 items organized into 2 factors/subscales: Negative Situations, Positive Situations.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Strongly Negative (Angry/Tense/Yell/Spank), 2 = Moderately Negative, 3 = Slightly Negative, 4 = Neutral, 5 = Slightly Positive, 6 = Moderately Positive, 7 = Strongly Positive (Pleased/Relaxed/Hug/Praise).
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
