The Parent Happiness With Youth Scale – PHYS was developed by Donohue, B., DeCato, L. A., Azrin, N. H., & Teichner, G. A. (2001). It is designed to measure Parental Satisfaction. The scale is intended for use with Parents of adolescents.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 13 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = 0% (Completely Unhappy), 10 = 10%, 20 = 20%, 30 = 30%, 40 = 40%, 50 = 50%, 60 = 60%, 70 = 70%, 80 = 80%, 90 = 90%, 100 = 100% (Completely Happy).
Scoring
Item scores are averaged to produce a mean score.
Total scores range from 0 to 100. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Satisfaction: 0 – 49
- Moderate Satisfaction: 50 – 79
- High Satisfaction: 80 – 100
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
