The Lum Emotional Availability of Parents – LEAP was developed by Lum, H., & Phares, V. (2004). It is designed to measure Parental Emotional Availability. The scale is intended for use with Adolescents and young adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 15 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Never, 2 = Rarely, 3 = Sometimes, 4 = Often, 5 = Very Often, 6 = Always.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 15 to 90. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Emotional Availability: 15 – 44
- Moderate Emotional Availability: 45 – 74
- High Emotional Availability: 75 – 90
