Scale Overview
The Parental Monitoring Assessment – PMA was developed by Small, S. A., & Kerns, D. (1993). It is designed to measure Parental Monitoring. The scale is intended for use with Adolescents.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 8 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Never, 2 = Rarely, 3 = Sometimes, 4 = Most of the time, 5 = Always.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 8 to 40. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Parental Monitoring: 8 – 18
- Moderate Parental Monitoring: 19 – 29
- High Parental Monitoring: 30 – 40
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 3 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
