Scale Overview
The Chicago Youth Development Study Parenting Practices Measure – Positive Parenting Practices (CYDS-PPP) was developed by Tolan, P. H., Gorman-Smith, D., & Henry, D. B. (2000). It is designed to measure Positive Parenting Practices. The scale is intended for use with Parents and youth/adolescents.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 12 items organized into 2 factors/subscales: Parent Report, Youth Report.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Almost never, 3 = Sometimes, 5 = Almost always.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 1 to 5. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Positive Parenting: 1 – 2
- High Positive Parenting: 3 – 5
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
