The Body-Cathexis and Self-Cathexis Scale – BC-SC was developed by Paul F. Secord and Sidney M. Jourard (1953). It is designed to measure Body image and self-concept satisfaction. The scale is intended for use with Adults.

Scoring
Item scores are averaged to produce a mean score.
Total scores range from 74 to 370. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low satisfaction / Negative cathexis: 74 – 185
- Moderate satisfaction / Neutral cathexis: 186 – 296
- High satisfaction / Positive cathexis: 297 – 370
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
