Scale Overview
The Acceptance and Action Questionnaire – II (AAQ-II) was developed by Frank W. Bond, Steven C. Hayes, et al. (2011). It is designed to measure Psychological Inflexibility. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 7 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Never true, 2 = Very seldom true, 3 = Seldom true, 4 = Sometimes true, 5 = Frequently true, 6 = Almost always true, 7 = Always true.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 7 to 49. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low psychological inflexibility (Higher psychological flexibility): 7 – 24
- High psychological inflexibility (Greater experiential avoidance): 25 – 49
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of 0.84.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 3 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
