Scale Overview
The Adapted Uncertainty Scale (AUS) was developed by Matthew W. Baldwin (2013). It is designed to measure State Uncertainty. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 19 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Very little or not at all, 2 = 2, 3 = 3, 4 = 4, 5 = Extremely.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 19 to 95. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Uncertainty: 19 – 38
- Moderate Uncertainty: 39 – 57
- High Uncertainty: 58 – 76
- Very High Uncertainty: 77 – 95
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 3 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
