Scale Overview
The Zuckerman Sensation Seeking Scale – Short Form (SSS) was developed by Marvin Zuckerman (1978). It is designed to measure Sensation Seeking. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 13 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: A = Option A, B = Option B.
The scale includes 5 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 13. Interpretation guidelines:
- Very low sensation seeking: 0 – 3
- Low sensation seeking: 4 – 5
- Average sensation seeking: 6 – 9
- High sensation seeking: 10 – 11
- Very high sensation seeking: 12 – 13
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
