Scale Overview
The Exploration Inventory – EI was developed by Green, J. D., & Campbell, W. K. (2000). It is designed to measure Exploration and Curiosity. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 18 items organized into 2 factors/subscales: General Exploration, Social Exploration.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = does not describe me at all, 2 = 2, 3 = 3, 4 = 4, 5 = 5, 6 = 6, 7 = 7, 8 = very much describes me.
Scoring
Item scores are averaged to produce a mean score.
Total scores range from 1 to 8. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Exploration Tendency: 1 – 3
- Moderate Exploration Tendency: 4 – 6
- High Exploration Tendency: 7 – 8
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of 0.81 – 0.85.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
