Scale Overview
The Children’s Hope Scale – CHS was developed by C. R. Snyder (1997). It is designed to measure Hope. The scale is intended for use with Children and adolescents (ages 8-16).

This instrument consists of 6 items organized into 2 factors/subscales: Agency, Pathways.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = None of the time, 2 = A little of the time, 3 = Some of the time, 4 = A lot of the time, 5 = Most of the time, 6 = All of the time.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 6 to 36. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Hope: 6 – 18
- Moderate Hope: 19 – 29
- High Hope: 30 – 36
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach's alpha ranges from 0.72 to 0.86.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
