The Inventory of College Students’ Recent Life Experiences – ICSRLE was developed by Paul M. Kohn, Karen Lafreniere, & Maria Gurevich (1990). It is designed to measure College student daily hassles and stress. The scale is intended for use with College students.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 49 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Not at all a part of my life, 2 = Only a slight part of my life, 3 = Distinctly a part of my life, 4 = Very much a part of my life.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 49 to 196. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Perceived Hassles: 49 – 98
- Moderate Perceived Hassles: 99 – 147
- High Perceived Hassles: 148 – 196
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of High internal consistency (typically Cronbach's alpha > .85).
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
