Scale Overview
The Leddy Healthiness Scale – LHS was developed by Susan K. Leddy (1996). It is designed to measure Healthiness. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 26 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Completely Disagree, 2 = Mostly Disagree, 3 = Slightly Disagree, 4 = Slightly Agree, 5 = Mostly Agree, 6 = Completely Agree.
The scale includes 8 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 26 to 156. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Healthiness: 26 – 69
- Moderate Healthiness: 70 – 112
- High Healthiness: 113 – 156
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of 0.89.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
