Scale Development & Technical Details
Scale Overview
The Motivational Persistence Scale – MPS was developed by Constantin, T., Holman, A., and Hojbotă, A. M. (2011). It is designed to measure Motivational Persistence. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 13 items organized into 3 factors/subscales: Long-term purposes pursuing, Current purposes pursuing, Recurrence of unattained purposes.
| Factor / Subscale | Items | N |
|---|---|---|
| Long-term purposes pursuing | 2,5,8,11 | 4 |
| Current purposes pursuing | 3,6,9,12 | 4 |
| Recurrence of unattained purposes | 1,4,7,10,13 | 5 |
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a 5-point Likert scale (1 = Strongly Disagree to 5 = Strongly Agree).
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 13 to 65. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Motivational Persistence: 13 – 30
- Moderate Motivational Persistence: 31 – 48
- High Motivational Persistence: 49 – 65
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach's alpha: .72 – .79.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
