Scale Overview
The Multidimensional Health Behavior Inventory – Exercise Subscale (MHBI-E) was developed by Kulbok, P.A., Carter, K.F., Baldwin, J.H., Gilmartin, M.J., & Kirkwood, B. (1999). It is designed to measure Exercise behavior. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 4 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Never, 2 = Rarely, 3 = Sometimes, 4 = Often, 5 = Always.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 4 to 20. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low physical activity: 4 – 9
- Moderate physical activity: 10 – 15
- High physical activity: 16 – 20
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 2 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
