The Survey of Recent Life Experiences – SRLE was developed by Paul M. Kohn & J. E. Macdonald (1992). It is designed to measure Daily Hassles / Stress. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 41 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Not at all part of my life, 2 = Only slightly part of my life, 3 = Distinctly part of my life, 4 = Very much part of my life.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 41 to 164. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low exposure to daily hassles: 41 – 82
- Moderate exposure to daily hassles: 83 – 123
- High exposure to daily hassles: 124 – 164
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of 0.90.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
