Scale Development & Technical Details
Scale Overview
The Coaching Feedback Questionnaire (CFQ) was developed by Amorose, A. J., & Horn, T. S. (2000). It is designed to measure Perceived coaching feedback. The scale is intended for use with Athletes.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 16 items organized into 3 factors/subscales: Positive and Informational Feedback, Punishment-Oriented Feedback, Nonreinforcement/Ignoring.
| Factor / Subscale | Items | N |
|---|---|---|
| Positive and Informational Feedback | 1,3,4,5,7,10,12,16 | 8 |
| Punishment-Oriented Feedback | 9,11,14,15 | 4 |
| Nonreinforcement/Ignoring | 2,6,8,13 | 4 |
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Not at all typical, 2 = Rarely typical, 3 = Moderately typical, 4 = Often typical, 5 = Very typical.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Positive and informational feedback (alpha = .72); Punishment-oriented feedback (alpha = .33); Nonreinforcement/Ignoring mistakes (alpha = .78).
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
