Scale Overview
The Doping Use Belief – DUB was developed by Andrea Petróczi (2007). It is designed to measure Doping beliefs and behaviors. The scale is intended for use with Athletes.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 4 items organized into 2 factors/subscales: Doping Belief, Doping Behavior.
| Factor / Subscale | Items | N |
|---|---|---|
| Doping Belief | 1,2 | 2 |
| Doping Behavior | 3,4 | 2 |
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = Absolutely not / No, 1 = Yes, but with restrictions / I do not wish to answer, 2 = Yes, without restrictions / Yes, but only for treating a medical condition, 3 = Yes (for behavior items).
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 0 to 10. Interpretation guidelines:
- Total score range (higher scores indicate more permissive beliefs and higher engagement in doping behavior): 0 – 10
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Not specified.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 2 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
