Scale Overview
The Anti-Mattering Scale – AMS was developed by Gordon L. Flett & Tami Nepon (2015). It is designed to measure Anti-mattering. The scale is intended for use with Adolescents and adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 5 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Not at all, 2 = A little, 3 = Somewhat, 4 = A lot.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 5 to 20. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Anti-Mattering: 5 – 9
- Moderate Anti-Mattering: 10 – 14
- High Anti-Mattering: 15 – 20
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 2 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
