Scale Overview
The Interaction With Antisocial Peers Scale – IAPS was developed by Social Development Research Group, University of Washington (2002). It is designed to measure Antisocial Peer Association. The scale is intended for use with Adolescents and young adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 6 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = None of my friends, 1 = 1 of my friends, 2 = 2 of my friends, 3 = 3 of my friends, 4 = 4 of my friends.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 24. Interpretation guidelines:
- No antisocial peer involvement: 0 – 0
- Low antisocial peer involvement: 1 – 6
- Moderate antisocial peer involvement: 7 – 12
- High antisocial peer involvement: 13 – 24
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach's alpha typically ranges from 0.75 to 0.85.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 2 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
