Scale Overview
The Interpersonal Communication Inventory – ICI was developed by Millard J. Bienvenu, Sr. (1971). It is designed to measure Interpersonal Communication. The scale is intended for use with Adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 40 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: Yes = Yes (usually), No = No (seldom), Sometimes = Sometimes.
The scale includes 20 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 120. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low interpersonal communication skills: 0 – 60
- Moderate interpersonal communication skills: 61 – 90
- High interpersonal communication skills: 91 – 120
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
