Scale Overview
The Relationship Change Scale – RCS was developed by S. P. Schlein & B. G. Guerney (1971). It is designed to measure Perceived relationship change. The scale is intended for use with Couples and adults in relationships.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 27 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Much Less, 2 = Less, 3 = No Change, 4 = More, 5 = Much More.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 27 to 135. Interpretation guidelines:
- Negative Relationship Change / Deterioration: 27 – 80
- No Perceived Change: 81 – 81
- Positive Relationship Change / Improvement: 82 – 135
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
