Scale Overview
The Diabetes Family Responsibility Questionnaire – DFRQ was developed by Barbara J. Anderson, Wendy F. Auslander, K. C. Jung, P. Miller, & Julio V. Santiago (1990). It is designed to measure Diabetes family responsibility sharing. The scale is intended for use with Adolescents with Type 1 diabetes and their parents.

This instrument consists of 17 items organized into 2 factors/subscales: General Health, Regimen Tasks.

Response anchors: 1 = Parent(s) took or initiated responsibility for this almost all of the time, 2 = Parent(s) and I shared responsibility for this about equally, 3 = I took or initiated responsibility for this almost all of the time.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 17 to 51. Interpretation guidelines:
- Primarily Parent Responsibility: 17 – 25
- Shared Responsibility: 26 – 42
- Primarily Adolescent Responsibility: 43 – 51
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
