The Mental Health Recovery Measure – MHRM was developed by Sharon L. Young, Wesley A. Bullock (2003). It is designed to measure Mental Health Recovery. The scale is intended for use with Adults experiencing mental health problems.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 30 items organized into 8 factors/subscales: Overcoming Stuckness, Self-Empowerment, Learning and Self-Redefinition, Basic Functioning, Overall Well-Being, New Potentials, Spirituality, Advocacy/Enrichment.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = Strongly Disagree, 1 = Disagree, 2 = Not Sure, 3 = Agree, 4 = Strongly Agree.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 0 to 120. Interpretation guidelines:
- Total score ranges from 0 to 120, with higher scores indicating a greater degree of recovery.: 0 – 120
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Total alpha 0.93.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
