Scale Overview
The Peer Outcomes Protocol – Peer Support during Hospitalization Subscale (POP-PSH) was developed by Campbell, Cook, Jonikas, & Einspahr (2004). It is designed to measure Peer Support during Hospitalization. The scale is intended for use with Mental health consumers/survivors attending peer support programs.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 4 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Disagree, 2 = Somewhat Disagree, 3 = Somewhat Agree, 4 = Agree.
The scale includes 2 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 4 to 16. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Perceived Support: 4 – 8
- Moderate Perceived Support: 9 – 12
- High Perceived Support: 13 – 16
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 2 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
