Scale Development & Technical Details
Scale Overview
The Systematic Clinical Outcome and Routine Evaluation – SCORE-28 was developed by Cahill, P., O’Reilly, K., Carr, A., Dooley, B., & Stratton, P. (2010). It is designed to measure Family Functioning. The scale is intended for use with Families (adults and adolescents).
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 28 items organized into 3 factors/subscales: Family Strengths, Family Difficulties, Family Communication.
| Factor / Subscale | Items | N |
|---|---|---|
| Family Strengths | 1,2,3,5,8,12,13,14,17,18,23,24,26 | 13 |
| Family Difficulties | 9,11,16,19,22,28 | 6 |
| Family Communication | 4,6,7,10,15,20,21,25,27 | 9 |
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Extremely well, 2 = Very well, 3 = Well, 4 = A bit, 5 = Not well, 6 = Not at all.
The scale includes 15 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Not specified.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
