Scale Overview
The Attitude Toward Interpersonal Peer Violence – ATIPV was developed by Ronald G. Slaby (adapted by Houston Community Demonstration Project) (1989). It is designed to measure Attitude toward interpersonal peer violence. The scale is intended for use with Adolescents (Middle school students, grades 6-8).
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 14 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Disagree a lot, 2 = Disagree a little, 3 = Agree a little, 4 = Agree a lot.
The scale includes 6 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Item scores are averaged to produce a mean score.
Total scores range from 1 to 4. Interpretation guidelines:
- Violent orientation / Low non-violent conflict resolution skills: 1 – 2
- Non-violent orientation / High non-violent conflict resolution skills: 2 – 4
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
