Scale Overview
The Community Involvement – Seattle Social Development Project (SSDP) was developed by Arthur, Hawkins, Pollard, Catalano & Baglioni (2002). It is designed to measure Community Involvement. The scale is intended for use with Adolescents.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 9 items organized into 2 factors/subscales: Opportunities, Rewards.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 4 = YES! (for items 1, 7, 8, 9), 3 = yes (for items 1, 7, 8, 9), 2 = no (for items 1, 7, 8, 9), 1 = NO! (for items 1, 7, 8, 9), 1_bin = Yes (for items 2-6), 0_bin = No (for items 2-6).
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 4 to 21. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Community Involvement: 4 – 9
- Moderate Community Involvement: 10 – 15
- High Community Involvement: 16 – 21
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 3 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
