Scale Overview
The Neighborhood Action/Willingness to Intervene Scale was developed by Perkins, Florin, Rich, Wandersman, & Chavis (1990). It is designed to measure Informal Social Control / Collective Efficacy. The scale is intended for use with Community residents.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 6 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Not at all likely, 2 = Somewhat likely, 3 = Very likely.
Scoring
Item scores are averaged to produce a mean score.
Total scores range from 1 to 3. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Likelihood of Intervention: 1 – 1
- Moderate Likelihood of Intervention: 1 – 2
- High Likelihood of Intervention: 2 – 3
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 2 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
