Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 54 items organized into 6 factors/subscales: Awareness, Realistic Acceptance, Disappointment, Grandiosity, Instability, Impression Management.
| Factor / Subscale | Items | N |
|---|---|---|
| Awareness | 1,4,7,11,13,18,20,23,25,27,29,33,35,36,40,42,46,48,50 | 19 |
| Realistic Acceptance | 3,10,15,22,32,39,54 | 7 |
| Disappointment | 2,9,14,21,31,38,53 | 7 |
| Grandiosity | 6,16,24,30,34,43,51 | 7 |
| Instability | 5,12,19,26,41,45,47,49,52 | 9 |
| Impression Management | 8,17,28,37,44 | 5 |
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Not At All True, 2 = Slightly True, 3 = Moderately True, 4 = Substantially True, 5 = Very True.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 1 to 5. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low / Weak (Mean Subscale Score): 1 – 2
- Moderate (Mean Subscale Score): 3 – 3
- High / Strong (Mean Subscale Score): 4 – 5
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Awareness: .90-.95, Realistic Acceptance: .76-.83, Disappointment: .90-.91, Grandiosity: .52-.73, Instability: .84-.88.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
