Scale Overview
The Gambling and Self-Monitoring Test (SeMo) was developed by John Macdonald, Nigel Turner, Matthew Somerset (2008). It is designed to measure Gambling literacy and self-monitoring beliefs. The scale is intended for use with Adolescents and adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 14 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = Strongly Disagree, 2 = Disagree, 3 = Agree, 4 = Strongly Agree.
The scale includes 9 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 14 to 56. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low knowledge / High misconceptions: 14 – 28
- Moderate knowledge / Moderate misconceptions: 29 – 42
- High knowledge / Healthy attitudes: 43 – 56
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
