The Short Grit Scale – Grit-S was developed by Angela L. Duckworth & Patrick D. Quinn (2009). It is designed to measure Grit. The scale is intended for use with Adults and adolescents.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 8 items organized into 2 factors/subscales: Consistency of Interest, Perseverance of Effort.

The scale includes 4 reverse-scored items to reduce acquiescence bias.

Total scores range from 1 to 5. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low Grit: 1 – 2
- Moderate Grit: 2 – 3
- High Grit: 3 – 5
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of 0.73 – 0.83.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 3 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
