Scale Overview
The Eating Disorder Diagnostic Scale – EDDS was developed by Eric Stice, Charles F. Telch, & Sarah L. Rizvi (2000). It is designed to measure Eating disorder symptomatology. The scale is intended for use with Adolescents and adults.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 12 items organized into 3 factors/subscales: Anorexia/Bulimia Attitudinal Symptoms, Binge Eating Symptoms, Compensatory Behaviors.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = Not at all, 1 = Slightly, 2 = Moderately, 3 = Extremely.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 0 to 127. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low risk / Subclinical: 0 – 15
- High risk / Clinical eating pathology: 16 – 127
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of 0.91.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
