The Brief Problem Checklist – Child Version (BPC) was developed by Chorpita et al. (2010). It is designed to measure Internalizing and Externalizing Problems. The scale is intended for use with Children aged 7-13.

This instrument consists of 12 items organized into 3 factors/subscales: Internalizing, Externalizing, Total Problems.

Response Format

Response anchors: 0 = Not True, 1 = Somewhat True, 2 = Very True.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 0 to 24. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low level of problems: 0 – 8
- Moderate level of problems: 9 – 16
- High level of problems: 17 – 24
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Test-retest coefficients ranged from .72 to .79.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 1 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
