Scale Overview
The Clinical COPD Questionnaire – CCQ was developed by van der Molen T, Willemse BW, Schokker S, Ten Hacken NH, Postma DS, Juniper EF (2003). It is designed to measure Health status in COPD patients. The scale is intended for use with Adults and elderly with COPD, emphysema, or chronic bronchitis.

This instrument consists of 10 items organized into 3 factors/subscales: Symptoms, Functional State, Mental State.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = Never / Not limited at all, 1 = Hardly ever / Hardly limited, 2 = A few times / Slightly limited, 3 = Several times / Moderately limited, 4 = Many times / Very limited, 5 = A great many times / Extremely limited, 6 = Almost all the time / Totally limited.
Scoring
Item scores are averaged to produce a mean score.
Total scores range from 0 to 6. Interpretation guidelines:
- Low clinical impact / Well-controlled: 0 – 1
- Moderate clinical impact: 1 – 2
- High clinical impact / Severe: 2 – 6
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach's alpha > 0.70.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 2 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
