Scale Overview
The Hip disability and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score-Physical function Short form (HOOS-PS) was developed by Tennant A. (2007). It is designed to measure Physical function and hip disability. The scale is intended for use with Adults and elderly with hip complaints or osteoarthritis.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 5 items.
Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = None, 1 = Mild, 2 = Moderate, 3 = Severe, 4 = Extreme.
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 20. Interpretation guidelines:
- Raw score range (higher scores indicate greater difficulty; raw scores are typically converted to a 0-100 interval scale where 0 represents extreme difficulty and 100 represents no difficulty): 0 – 20
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of High.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 2 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
