Scale Overview
The Incontinence Impact Questionnaire – Short Form (IIQ-7) was developed by Uebersax JS, Wyman JF, Shumaker SA, Beck SD, Fantl JA (1995). It is designed to measure Impact of urinary incontinence on quality of life. The scale is intended for use with Adults experiencing urinary incontinence.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 7 items organized into 3 factors/subscales: Physical Activity, Travel/Social, Emotional Health.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 0 = Not at all, 1 = Slightly, 2 = Moderately, 3 = Greatly.
Scoring
Item scores are averaged to produce a mean score.
Total scores range from 0 to 21. Interpretation guidelines:
- Mild Impact: 0 – 7
- Moderate Impact: 8 – 14
- Severe Impact: 15 – 21
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of High internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha typically > 0.80).
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
