Scale Overview
The International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire – Urinary Incontinence Short Form (ICIQ-UI SF) was developed by Avery K, et al. (2004). It is designed to measure Urinary incontinence frequency, severity, and quality of life impact. The scale is intended for use with Adults.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: Item 1 = 0: Never, 1: Once a week or less, 2: 2-3 times a week, 3: Once a day, 4: Several times a day, 5: All the time, Item 2 = 0: None, 2: Small, 4: Moderate, 6: Large, Item 3 = 0 (Not at all) to 10 (A great deal).
Scoring
Items are summed to produce a total score.
Total scores range from 0 to 21. Interpretation guidelines:
- Dry (No incontinence): 0 – 0
- Slight: 1 – 5
- Moderate: 6 – 12
- Severe: 13 – 18
- Very severe: 19 – 21
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of 0.95.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
