Scale Overview
The Voice-Related Quality of Life Measure – V-RQOL was developed by Hogikyan ND, Sethuraman G (1999). It is designed to measure Voice-related quality of life. The scale is intended for use with Adults with voice disorders.
Scale Structure
This instrument consists of 10 items organized into 2 factors/subscales: Physical Functioning, Social-Emotional.

Response Format
Respondents rate each item using a custom response format.
Response anchors: 1 = None, not a problem, 2 = A small amount, 3 = A moderate amount, 4 = A lot, 5 = Problem is as bad as it can be.
Scoring
Items are scored by subscale, with each subscale sum representing a distinct dimension.
Total scores range from 10 to 50. Interpretation guidelines:
- Minimal impact on quality of life: 10 – 15
- Mild impact on quality of life: 16 – 25
- Moderate impact on quality of life: 26 – 35
- Severe impact on quality of life: 36 – 50
Psychometric Properties
Internal Consistency: The scale has demonstrated good to excellent internal consistency with reported Cronbach’s alpha values of Cronbach's alpha > 0.85.
Administration
The scale is self-administered and typically takes approximately 3 minutes to complete. It can be administered individually or in group settings. No special training is required for administration.
